The stage where players "Train to Train" is now! A professional approach is essential. Players should be capable of winning tournaments ALTHOUGH the goal to perform at one's best must be the objective.
Even more emphasis should be put on the 4 areas of tennis and will involve the following:
Technical
1. Variety of spin on all strokes
2. Footwork and stroke efficiency
3. Develop serve as potential weapon
4. Emphasis placed on technique relevant to game style.
Physical
1. Dexterity; static and dynamic balance
2. Development of speed: Reaction, upper/lower body movement, speed strength
3. Develop stamina
4. Develop flexibility
5. Develop speed endurance
Tactical
1. Serve and volley combinations
2. Serve and attack combinations
3. Develop aggressive counter attack
4. Tactical use of power
5. Anticipation from tactical and technical cues from the opponent
6. Introduce advanced shot selection
7. Play on the rise
Mental
1. Very specific goal setting
2. Develop competitive spirit
3. Further development of concentration, motivation, control of thoughts and emotional control
The ratio of Tennis Competition vs Tennis Training should be 30/70 TO 50/50 depending on the level of the player.
Players should compete in local u/14 or u/16 events. Results start playing a role but only serves as a guideline to indicate the player’s current level.
